FRISCO, Texas (July 27, 2017) – North Texas Soccer earned two wins and a loss on the final day of grou play at the 2017 US Youth Soccer National Championships held at Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco Texas. Under-17 Bboys FC Dallas 00 Premier joined Under-15 Boys Solar Chelsea Red 02 Stricker in the semifinals while scoring 10 goals in one game.
Under-15 Girls Solar Chelsea 02 Grado, Under-15 Boys Solar Chelsea Red 02 Stricker and Under-17 Boys FC Dallas 00 Premier advanced to the National Championships after claiming 2017 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships titles last month in Greensboro, N.C.
After a day off, semifinals will take place on July 29 and champions will be crowned on Sunday, July 30. Boys and girls teams in multiple age groups earn their way by competing against the top teams in their state and region. US Youth Soccer State Champions and selected wildcard teams are eligible to compete in one of four US Youth Soccer Regional Championships. The champions in the 13U through 19/20U age groups from each regional event will converge in the finals with the National League teams.
Solar Chelsea Stricker already secured first place in Group B and a trip to the semifinals after the second day, but the Region III Champions put a bow on group play with a 2-0 victory against Region II Champions NFC 02 Blue (NE) on day three. Captain Harvey Castro volleyed in Grant McCarty’s cross from the right side to put Solar up in the first half, and Riley O’Donnell would add his age group-leading fifth goal to double Solar’s lead at 2-0. Solar will face National League Red runners up and the second place team in Group A, St. Louis Scott Gallagher SC Elite (MO) in the semifinals.
Solar Chelsea 02 Grado took a third place finish in Group A after a 2-0 defeat to Nationals Union 02 Black (MI). Nationals Union, which won its first two games by a combined 10-1 score and features multiple National Champions on its roster won the group with a 3-0 record. Solar will finish the tournament with two goals scored from Gabriella Lovkvist.
FC Dallas 00 Premier headed into its final group play match needing a win over 2016 National Championship finalists and 2016-17 National League Red champions Raiders FC (IL) and some help in order to secure a spot in the semifinals. FC Dallas certainly did its part by defeating Raiders 10-2, and the Region III Champions got the result they needed in the other match to advance to the semifinals. Garrett Baughman netted a hat trick to go with Carlos Santamaria’s brace and goals from Fabian Cruz, Joe Ameke, David Ortiz, Roman Deleon and Marcos Puga. FC Dallas will play Region II Champions Michigan Jaguars 00 Green (MI) on Saturday, July 29th in the semifinals.
“It was a huge win. We cut down on silly mistakes and put goals away. We can compete with any team in the country, and we understand what it takes,” FC Dallas coach Clem Oancea said. “I’m proud of the outcome, and I am happy boys understand how to take it to the next level. I think we have a chance to go in and win it all. I’m excited to represent North Texas on the highest level.”
