Thirteen North Texas teams advance to Southern Regional Semifinals

GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 26, 2018) – Of the 26 North Texas Soccer teams that began play at the 2018 Southern Regional Championships, 13 have advanced to the semifinals after the second day of quarterfinals. Last year eight North Texas teams reached the semifinals, with three ultimately claiming regional titles. Teams in the 13-Under  through 19-Under Boys and Girls age groups competed at Bryan Park Soccer Complex in Greensboro, N.C. from June 22-28, 2018.

US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Premier League (SRPL) West winners and select runners-up in the 13-Under  through 19-Under Boys and Girls age groups joined State Cup Champions and select wildcards at the Southern Regional Championships. Regional winners will then represent the South Region at the 2018 US Youth Soccer National Championships held at Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas on July 24-29.

The North Texas Soccer State Cup is the first step in the US Youth Soccer National Championships Series. Boys and girls teams in multiple age groups earn their way by competing against the top teams in their state and region. US Youth Soccer State Champions and selected wildcard teams are eligible to compete in one of four US Youth Soccer Regional Championships. The champions in the 13U through 19U age groups from each regional event will join US Youth Soccer National League teams in Frisco, Texas at the National Championships.

Quarterfinals Recaps

13-Under Boys (June 25)
2018 State Cup champions Dallas Kicks 05 (TX-N) is headed to the semifinals after a 3-0 win over MFC Rush Premier (MS). Edson Marchan began the scoring in the 40th minute, and Edgar Munoz would score his fifth and sixth goal of the tournament to secure the win. Dallas Kicks will play Rise 05 Elite 1 (TX-S) in the semifinals. Liverpool 05 Dalgish (TX-N) got off to a dream start with James Austin’s goal in the 10th minute, but CESA 05 (SC) would respond with two second-half goals. Patrick Novotny equalized for Liverpool in stoppage time to put the score at 2-2, and it would stay that way up until kicks from the mark, which was ultimately won by CESA.

13-Under Girls
Liverpool 05 Elite (TX-N) and 2018 State Cup champions Dallas Texans South (TX-N) both secured semifinals spots with shutout wins in the quarterfinals. Theresa McCullough’s brace combined with goals from Samantha Lumpkin and Caelynn January gave Liverpool a 4-0 win against Lonestar 05 Red (TX-S), while Gabriella Love and Emeri Adames netted second half goals for Dallas Texans to win 2-0 over Weston FC (FL). The two North Texas sides will play each other in the semifinals tomorrow.

14-Under Girls (June 25)
All three North Texas teams will play in the semifinals after DFeeters 04 Voutier, Solar 04 Rundell and FC Dallas 04 Blue all won quarterfinals matches after also each winning their respective groups. Brianna Luna’s 45th minute goal gave DFeeters a 1-0 win against DSC 04 Lady (SC). DFeeters will play FC Dallas 04 Blue in the semifinals after the 2018 State Cup champions defeated IFC 04 Red (MS) 5-1 courtesy of goals from Alena Ultes, Kristen Sueltz, Olivia Trotter, Mary Grace Henninger and Colleen Gilliland. Taryn Martin’s brace gave Solar 04 Rundell a 2-0 win against TN United Red (TN). Solar will play Sunrise Sting 2004 Black (FL) in the other semifinals match.

15-Under Boys (June 25)
OK Energy FC Central 03 (OK) earned a 1-0 lead over FC Premier 03 Opoku (TX-N) with a goal in the 22nd minute, but Erik Barr would equalize for FC Premier to send the match into extra time, where FC Premier erupted for three goals by Barr, Eduardo Cerna and Iago Gerber to ultimately win 4-1. Next up for the two-time defending State Cup champions is a semifinals match against defending Southern Regional champions USA Mt. Pleasant 03 Premier (SC).

15-Under Girls (June 25)
Caroline Kniffen’s group leading sixth and seventh goals of the tournament gave Liverpool 03 Elite (TX-N) a 2-1 win against Sunrise Sting 03 Black (FL) in the quarterfinals. Next up for Liverpool is a semifinals match against Murfreesboro FC (TN) tomorrow.

16-Under Boys (June 25)
Joey Perryman and Shane Anderson moved to the top of the goals-scored leader board for the age group after each netted a brace in addition to a pair from Michael Sosa as FC Dallas 02 Premier won 6-2 in the quarterfinals against 02 Lobos Rush Premier (TN). Next up for FC Dallas is a match against OK Energy FC Central 02 (OK) in the semifinals. 2018 State Cup champions Odyssey 02 fell 4-2 to 02 NCFC Elite (NC) with goals coming from John Lisenbee and Brock Pope.

17UG Solar

16-Under Girls (June 25)
Sparta 02 Elite (TX-N) twice came from behind to ultimately defeat 02 CSA Predator (NC) 3-2 in the quarterfinals. Maycie Massingill, Reagan Easter and Graycen Rasmussen all found the back of the net for Sparta, who plays UFA 02 Premier (GA) in the semifinals tomorrow.

17UB Solar

17-Under Boys
Burl Shepherd’s brace combined with goals from Teren Tate and Bryson Bezdek gave Solar 01 Stricker (TX-N) the 4-1 win against USA/MP 01 Premier (SC) in the quarterfinals. Solar will take on Rise SC 01 Elite (TX-S) in the semifinals. 2018 State Cup champions Sporting United 01 went up 2-0 on Lobos Rush 01 Premier (TN), but the Tennessee side would knot things up at 2-2 later in the first half. Jose Granados gave Sporting a 3-2 lead in the 37th minute, and the score would remain that way until the 87th minute, when Lobos would equalize for a second time. No goals would be found in extra time, and Lobos would won via kicks from the marks.

17-Under Girls
2018 State Cup champions Solar 01 Fagen (TX-N) went up early 1-0 against 01 Lobos Rush (TN) courtesy of Isabella Burda’s goal, but Lobos would immediately respond and find a second goal in the first half to win 2-1.

18-Under Boys
Diego Pareja, Jalen Starks and Joel Ameke all found the back of the net in the first half for defending champs FC Dallas 00 Premier (TX-N) to build a 3-0 lead. VHSC Steamers 00 (AL) would cut the lead to one with two goals early in the second half, but Adrian Morales scored to give FC Dallas a 4-2 win. Not to be outdone, FC Dallas 00 Boys (TX-N) used second-half goals from Miguel Landeros, Tucker Littleton and Jose Flores to win 3-0 over ACYS Spirit United (FL). The two FC Dallas sides will face off tomorrow to determine who will represent North Texas in the finals.
