North Texas alums Hintzen, James named to U-23 USWNT Camp

FRISCO, Texas (Jan. 8, 2018) – Former North Texas Soccer players Cyera Hintzen and Julie James were called into the first U.S. Soccer Under-23 Women’s National Team camp of the year, which takes place Jan. 4-11 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif. The event will overlap with the first U.S. Women’s National Team camp, which features North Texas Soccer alum and former US Youth Soccer National Champion, Taylor Smith.

This marks the second U-23 camp in which Hintzen has received an invite. The Texas Longhorn forward has also represented the United States on the Under-19 level. In her sophomore season, Hintzen led the Big 12 in points (25), match winning goals (six) and tied for the most goals (10). Hintzen also racked up her fair share of awards, as she was named 2017 United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American and First Team All-South Region. The Garland, Texas native played in the North Texas Olympic Development Program (ODP) from 2009-13 and represented North Texas at the 2013 US Youth Soccer ODP Championships. Hintzen played club soccer for Sting and FC Dallas and won the 2010 North Texas Soccer State Cup with the latter.

James received her first youth national team call up since 2014, when she trained with the U-20 USWNT. James started all 20 games for the Baylor Bears and finished third on the team with 11 points off three goals and five assists. James joined Hintzen on the All-Big 12 First team and was named  to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-South Region. The junior midfielder from Fairview, Texas won the 2011 North Texas State Cup, 2011 US Youth Soccer South Region Championships and 2011 National Championships with Sting. James was also named to the 2011 National Championships Best XI squad.
