Of the over 300 top recreational teams in North Texas that began play at the 2020 North Texas Soccer Tournament of Champions, 32 teams were crowned champions in the 9-Under through 19-Under Boys and Girls age groups this past weekend.
Greater Wichita Falls Soccer Association led the way with seven teams reaching the finals, with five claiming division titles. Six teams from Greater Lewisville Area Soccer Association (GLASA) reached the finals, while Kilgore Soccer Association and Tyler Soccer Association each had three teams take home first place trophies. Overall, 29 different associations had teams reach the finals, and of the 29, champions represented 19 different associations.
Tigers FC (Mesquite SA) claimed a third straight Tournament of Champions title, while 14-Under Girls Xtreme FC (Greater Wichita Falls SA) and ETFC Barza (Kilgore SA) defended their respective Tournament of Champions titles from last year. After finishing in second place last year, 10-Under Girls Mayhem FC (Greater Wichita Falls SA) and Iron Maidens (Graham SA) took home first place trophies in 2020.
The North Texas Soccer Tournament of Champions is the largest recreational tournament in the US Youth Soccer Southern Region, which is comprised of state associations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Texas and Tennessee. The tournament featured over 700 games being played on over 60 fields at seven complexes in Plano, Frisco and McKinney. Teams from over 50 North Texas member associations were selected to compete, with many of the teams being league champions in their respective associations
Divisions were divided up within the age group based on association size to ensure the most competitive environment. Select age groups had one division, while others will have up to three divisions. Teams that finished in first, second or third place received medals for their achievements.
Games were played at the following complexes: Carpenter Park, Cheyenne Park, High Point Park, Northeast Community Park, McKinney Soccer Complex at Craig Ranch, Russell Creek Park and Warren Sports Complex.
