At North Texas Soccer, we love to see the ways soccer brings people together and impacts communities far beyond the playing field. That’s why we were thrilled by the efforts of Solar Soccer, one of the clubs within our territory, as they raised $64,000 for childhood cancer research and patient support!
Solar Soccer partnered with their sponsor, Adidas, to design special gold jerseys embellished with gold ribboned Solar logos for their uniform ordering site. From there, staff, coaches and players encouraged one another to invest in a gold jersey that they could wear through September and beyond. Over 2,500 jerseys were sold, and 100% of the proceeds have been donated to childhood cancer research and patient support.
“Solar is a diverse organization focused on the development of players on and off the field. Giving back beyond the game, is just one way we support this,” shared Adrian Solca, Executive Director of Coaching. “Because this cause impacts kids at the ages of our Solar players, we wanted to give them an opportunity to make a big, positive difference now.”
Solar Soccer spread the $64,000 donation to support research and grants, patients and their families, and hospitals who are committed to fighting childhood cancer. Recipients included Heroes for Children Texas, Cook Children’s Health Care, Children’s Medical Center Dallas and The Carson Leslie Foundation. The Carson Leslie Foundation held special significance for North Texas Soccer players, as it was created to honor the memory of Carson Leslie, a young Dallas athlete who fought a valiant 3 year battle against medulloblastoma.
“This initiative raised our awareness regarding childhood cancer, allowing us to take time to connect with one another and hear people’s stories,” shared Amber Shelton, Administrator of Solar Soccer Club. “We plan to continue this meaningful campaign in years to come.”
Thank you for inspiring us all, Solar Soccer!
