Women's Referee Scholarship Program

The NTSSA Women's Referee Scholarship will be awarded to an energetic female who has an interest in becoming a referee, assistant referee, or a referee who wants to advance in the grading system. The recipient will be reimbursed for the referee class upon successful completion of the course. You will also receive your 2007 Referee Badge and a referee kit that consists of a uniform, socks, flags, cards, and a bag. We will write a letter to your local referee assignor asking them to put you on the assignment list. It will be up to you to follow-up with an introduction and to communicate your availability.

Submission Guidelines:

To submit an entry for consideration, please write a one-page letter giving your reasons why you believe you would deserve this scholarship. Please include in your letter some of the following items:
  1. Why you are a referee Want-To-Be or a Referee Want-To-Be-Better?
  2. Where you are from and what your plans are for the future?
  3. Tell us your soccer history.
  4. Tell us why you would deserve to win this scholarship.
Entry deadline:

Entry deadline is Friday, January 26, 2010. The Referee Scholarship Committee will make their selection by Friday, February 9, 2010. The recipient will be notified immediately. Entries should be sent to:

Below are the requirements of the award:

Attend one of the referee classes available on or before April 1, 2010. Pass the exam to obtain a 2010 referee patch. Be available as referee and assistant referee at one (1) adult women's game per week for one full year (fall 2009 through spring 2010). We strongly recommend that you also be available to do youth games so that you may gain the necessary knowledge to move up the experience ladder. Must be at least 14 years of age. Should be in excellent physical condition.

We need more woman referees. In fact, we simply need more referees. Why not fill the void with women?!

If additional information is required, please email Mary Jesse Guerra.
